Chapter 01
Why this starts with a consultation, not a booking
A starlight headliner is not something to book sight unseen, because too much of it is a choice rather than a fixed spec. Suede color, how many stars, whether shooting stars get added, and whether the layout is a random field or a drawn pattern all get decided before a single panel comes out of the roof. The shop runs a one-on-one consultation first specifically to walk through those choices and get a feel for what the customer actually pictures for their roof.
That conversation is also where realistic expectations get set: what a given star count looks like once it is actually lit, how dense a random field reads compared to a laid-out pattern, and how a roof accent color change works alongside the headliner if that is part of the plan. Settling all of that ahead of time means the car only needs to come off the road once for the actual work.

The headliner has to come out of the car
There is no shortcut that gets fiber optic stars into a headliner without pulling it. The whole panel comes out of the roof, gets stripped down, and is re-covered from scratch in the suede color that was picked at the consultation, since the stars sit behind the new fabric rather than on top of the old one.
The fiber optic strands get set into the panel behind the suede before the headliner goes back up, run so the light points land where they were actually meant to show once the fabric is stretched over the top of them, not just poked through wherever was easiest to route the strand. Getting that placement right before the panel goes back into the roof is most of the real skill in the job.
Chapter 03
Choosing a star field that suits the roof
A star count that looks sparse and understated on a full-size SUV roof can look completely different, denser and busier, on a coupe with a much smaller headliner panel, so the layout gets sized to the actual roof it is going into rather than picked off a generic chart.
Shooting stars and unique patterns are both available on top of a standard field, and a roof accent color change can be done alongside the headliner itself if the plan is to redo the whole roof interior in one visit rather than the headliner on its own.
What it costs and how long the car is here
A full starlight suede headliner with fiber optics starts at 249.99 dollars and the car is typically with the shop about 24 hours, since it covers the full removal, the suede recover, and setting the fiber optics behind the fabric before it goes back up.
For anyone who just wants the headliner itself refreshed without the star field, a plain black suede recover and replacement is a shorter job, about 6 hours, for someone whose current headliner is sagging, stained, or worn rather than looking for a lighting feature.
Living with it
Suede takes more care than the factory headliner it replaces. Direct sun and heat over a long parking stretch can affect suede the same way it affects any fabric interior, and spot cleaning it the wrong way can leave a mark that stock cloth would have shrugged off, so it is worth asking the shop how to clean it before reaching for whatever is under the sink.
The install itself, both the suede work and the fiber optic wiring, is covered by the shop's own warranty on the work performed, so anything that comes loose or stops lighting up gets brought back rather than lived with.
